2024/2025 Season News
Winter gives way to Summer
Winter 2024/2025 comes to a close Well we finished in style last night with our final player matches taking place to find out which of our players will take home the trophies, and we had some cracking darts on show.
We led with the fours, with P.Betsworth, T.Moore, T.Butler & C.Shepherd up against M.Roberts, S.Perkins, R.Livingstone & D.Smith. Team Shepherd quickly found their rhythm, and walked away with the trophies for a 3-1 win.
Husband and wife pair P & M Winter took on C.Rimmer & J.Gunn, who held on for 2 legs, but the Winter team took the Winter trophy for the mixed pairs, winning 4-2
T.Moore and C.Shepherd came back out after their earlier warm up to play against J.Delaney and R.Spencer. The earlier match appears to have helped as they stormed to the victory 4-1 in the doubles.
T.Moore stayed at the oche to be joined by P.Winter Snr, with both players ready for their sparring in the over 50’s. The respite between matches seemed at first to not favour P.Winter, with T.Moore taking the early lead, but the fight to the finish ended with P.Winter on top winning 4-3
P.Winter Snr was then joined at the oche by son P.Winter Jnr & B.Szabados in the triples against S.Doore, S.Perkins & J.Bartlett. As a twist, this match was played double-in and double-out.
Doore, Perkins and Bartlett did not hang about and took the first leg, and storming into an early lead in leg 2, with Winter, Winter and Szabados held back trying to get their double. But there was no messing once they got going, and the family pair both threw 180s to hit back and the team levelled the score.
And they kept the momentum going to take the next 2 legs to win 3-1Our final game before the presentation saw C.Shepherd head to head with P.Winter Snr, both having played already and being in winning teams. And this showed as the matches were evenly balanced to 3-3. C.Shepherd took the advantage in the 7th leg, and did not look back in leg 8 with some high scoring securing a 5-3 win.

We have our finalists
Last night saw the final knockout for the player competitions of the season, with our individuals matches.
64 players turned out (thanks for making it a perfect number so no bye’s!) all hoping to get through to the final two.
With a mix from all divisions there were a wide range of players, and we had a lot of 100+ scores again, numerous over 140, and 3 x 180s thrown on the night.
Alas 62 players had to be disappointed, and we whittled them down round by round to leave us with P.Winter Snr going up against C.Shepherd next week in the final match
These players join our other competition finalists.
P.Winter Snr will also play in the Over 50’s competition along with T.Moore
T.Moore will pair up with C.Shepherd to go up against J.Delaney and R.Spencer in the Doubles
C.Shepherd and T.Moore are also featured in the Fours along with T.Butler and P.Betsworth, going head to head with D.Smith, M.Roberts, R.Livingstone and S.Perkins
P.Winter snr and M.Winter (husband & wife) in the Mixed pairs, facing M.Brown and C.Rimmer.
P.Winter snr, P.Winter jnr & B.Szabados to face J.Bartlett, S.Perkins & S.Doore in the Triples.
We wish all the players good darts for next week when we will crown our champions of the season and hand over those coveted trophies.
Again thanks to the DOC for their services to players and spectators alike.
Over 50’s throwing Over 100’s
Last night saw the Over 50’s competition in the Winter season, where our more experienced players strut their stuff.
30 players took part in the competition specially celebrating them, as they took to the boards to show us their moves.
Over the course of the night we saw a lot of 100+ scores, and many over 140 as well. Tony Moore also got in a 180 on the route through the competition, ending up in the final two, along with Paul Winter
Our thanks as always to the Duke of Connaught and team for hosting these events and giving the crowd food, drinks and of course a great atmosphere.
Cup Finals 2025
Cup Final Winners Well it was an fun finish to the cup yesterday with all 3 cup games hosted at neutral venues.
In Division 1 Fred Dyke Cup, Q-battery were left dangling 4-1 at the half way point against Trinity Tavern ‘B’, then kicked it up a notch to draw even. In the final throws, Mark Tiller from Q-Battery took the final game to win.
Division 2 Ernie Hills Cup looked to be a complete whitewash for the Wicor Mill ‘B’, leading 6-0. Portchester SC were not having that though and took the next 2 games, before Wicor Mill ‘B’ closed the deal on 7-2.
Baby boy Adam Lipscombe (not my words so any lawsuits please refer to the Committee ๐ ) was after the big fish finish, throwing triple 20, then another triple 20, and with the crowd holding their breath .. hit 25.More of a even fight in Division 3 President’s cup, with both teams taking early games, but the DOC Limes stomped on the gas and took the last 4 games for a 6-3 win.
Thank you to everyone who came along to watch the matches, and a shout out to the Jolly Miller, Hill Park WMC and Duke of Connaught and their staff hosting the event and laying on the refreshments and food.
